Any thoughts on confined water pool dives when pregnant??
I am pregnant and still teaching in our pool which is 5ft.
Have not been in the ocean since we tried to get pregnant.
Appriciate comments..

I'm sure others here will chime in with more technical info, but that's my opinion. From a woman who has been trying to get pregnant for about 2 years.

We have no deffinitive proof (ie, human experiments) that shallow diving could be hazardous to the fetus, but is it a chance worth taking? My $0.02 says "No".

I see this is your first post. In the future, you might try searching on a topic prior to posting - there's LOTS of good info already on this board.

Good Luck!

Shouldn't be any different than swimming while pregnant. Which is actually a very healthy and low impact exercise and my wife's OB recommends swimming. It takes alot of the stresses off of the body. I think the primary risks of diving while pregnant is the factor of breathing compressed gasses. I do not think that 5 feet is deep enough to really start the process of on-gassing as it is in the "safety stop" range. You should be okay, but as always consult your PMD.

There is a significant difference between swimming and diving with compressed air. But I'm surprised the "experts" haven't chimed in yet.

Good Luck,

There are several things that can happen during pregnancy that shouldn't be overlooked (ie. gestational diabetes). Your question is much too important for this board. Get into contact with your OB/GYN, a dive physician or divers alert network. If all else fails, don't risk it; it's a 9 month (or less!) sacrafice for a beautiful baby! Best of luck and I wish you a healthy baby.:)

Any diving using compressed gas cannot be recommended during pregnancy.

Best regards.
