So, if many of us are trying to answer the wrong question, let us know, and we'll try again. Just like with a pinata, we'll keep swinging til we hit something.
:rofl3: that was good.

I'm increasingly uncertain of the OP's application...

.......I'm having a debate with someone as to how technical divers would prefer this setup. Note that I am recently decompression certified so I am speaking from a new technical diver perspective.

Please go back to your instructor and slap him. Then demand your money back. I don't think he taught you everything you need.

I usually stay out of this, but I have to agree with the comrade. What kind of deco class did you take that didn't go into equipment configuration? Sling it on your left, one 40, two 40s, a 40 and an 80, they all work. Valve up or down? Do you mean the outlet of the valve? I hope the BC you speak of is a back plate and wing.

I think the OP is really talking about a rec 'pony' bottle like a 19cf jobber for bail out gas...and not a larger deco/stage bottle. Having said that...my rec pony is rigged basically the same as my tec deco bottles.....only sig. differnce is size and content!

Comrade.

Yea he makes several conflicting statements.....but most of us tec chaps rig a rec pony the same as our larger deco bottles and still sling that little fellow!!

Okay let me clarify my question again as I definitely confused the issue with the wording of the question. Sorry. I agree with all statements concerning tech rig setup. My mistake for mentioning the deco cert for this question as it doesn't apply.

My question is in reference to diving recreational rig setup single cylinder with a pony backup for deeper dives, but NOT technical decompression dives.

Just use your doubles. The ones you used in your deco class. All the redundancy you need.

I know it is beyond many peoples comprehension but you can take a deco class without doubles. I took IANTD Adv Deep & Adv Nitrox in a LP130 with an H valve and a slung 40 I did however move to doubles for Trimix.
