Just wondering who had these problems.
When I'm diving my mask will leak under one of 2 conditions.
A) When I smile
B) When I recover my reg
- Because I have a small mouth and long style mouthpiece. It requires me to open my mouth wide and break the seal of my mask.
I'm always a moody diver during class pictures. :(

Let's here it. Anyone else experience the same issues?

Edit:
So I guess writing "only" in the poll makes it a little too specific. Forget that word. Let just hear if your mask leaks under the 2 conditions or if it leaks when you're doing other things.

My mask leaks quite a bit. When I smile (which is a lot when underwater!), when I change position (such as upside down to look under a ledge without messing up the reef), and when I look behind me in a strong current. No big deal. Just clear the mask, smile, and clear again. :D

BTW, I didn't see any poll to vote to.

Hold your hoses! You're too fast for me ;)
Poll's up now.

My mask leaks for unpredictable and frequently unidentifiable reasons, but doesn't leak very often. I finally found a mask that FITS and doesn't leak, but of the last three days of diving, it has seeped constantly on two of them. I can't figure out why. It has nothing to do with smiling (cave diving is SERIOUS business :) ) and certainly nothing to do with recovering or switching regulators.

There was one time I did a bounce dive to determine which way the current was flowing. My mask leaked constantly on the way down AND on the way up. When I surfaced I switched to my back-up mask because I thought there was a problem with my primary mask. It turned out that the straps somehow got too loose, and once I tightened them the mask worked perfectly. Very basic, but we don't often look for basic problems. Just a suggestion. :dontknow:

Thanks for the suggestion, but it isn't the strap. This mask fits so well that when, as happens VERY often, the isolator knob pushes the strap completely up and off my head, the mask still stays put and doesn't leak. Except when it does . . . :)

After buying 5 masks and trying 4 friends masks I found one that fits my watermelon head and I have yet been able to get it to leak. Yes I'm a happy diver, one more issue off my list.

when I over tighten the straps

Mine leaks if I smile too much.

Generally I have a small leak that is no big deal until I can't see when I am taking photographs

When I smile (or have to laugh really badly :P ) and when the straps are too tight.
Also when my fuzzy baby hairs are in the way, which I now prevent by wetting my hair before I put the mask on, and stroke them back on my head.
I find this solution better than the one my instructor proposed: wax them off.....seriously??? :P
With mask recovery I hold my hair back with one hand, put the mask on with the other, than put the strap on with the 'hair' hand :)
