To much talk on SB and not enough diving. You have 3 certs, go put them to use.

so... hermosadive... how many certs do you have, and how come you're
using your time posting on here instead of being out there diving?

vladimir:
This guy is well on his way to his 50th dive (and his 1000th post.) So you other holdouts take heed and sell your poodle jackets and split fins, and go get a backplate now.

I don't collect Certs as a hobbie. I do try and dive every week, at least one night dive and several beach & boat dives...usually between 2-5 a week. Briefly checking my log book, I did close to 100 dives in various conditions over the last 7 months of 2004. I'm fortunate to spend my free time with a group of friends that are established DMs and Instructors who have years of experience for me to learn from. I don't get much from polls or the word association game, but occassional I find some useful conversation on SB so I keep coming back. I wish I could break this debilitating habit.

so are you assuming that others collect certs as hobbies and don't try to dive
every week? that's a pretty big assumption.

Nope, I was responding directly to KidSpot, his profile and the over abundance of rehashed or pointless DIR threads and polls. Not an attack, just and observation. As pointed out by another poster:

vladimir:
With Kidspot advocating the BP/W in post after poll after post, how can I not switch? This guy is well on his way to his 50th dive (and his 1000th post.)

Enough of this though, I have more post deleted on this board than the TOTAL POSTS on my profile. You know "they" are watching us.

The first time I donned a bp/w I have to admit it felt pretty strange until I hit the water. However, once in the water I felt a new freedom, less clutter, less drag. Simply put, I was sold.

Now for the important stuff:
Just where the heck was Jimmy Hoffa?

So what if i collect cert cards as a hobby, is that bad? I did learn a few things in the process.:offtopic: o.k. to the question at hand, never tried it, resisting with all my power.I guess if i knew EVERYTHING when i started diving, i might have chosen another path. But after spending $450 on a bc, it kind of makes you want to like it. I'll probably stick with it (bc)until some catastrophic failure takes place, or i win one (bp/w)in a contest or something. Then i too will jump on the bandwagon and badmouth bc's until taking the big dirt nap.

ok, but i don't see the point of telling someone "hey, you don't have that
many dives so shut up already"

how many dives do you need? 500? the people who have 1,000 dives
can tell you to shut up. 1,000? the people who have 2,000 will tell you
to shut up... and so on...

For those of you who have been wondering what I could learn from this poll... The current results show 13% who have tried a bp/w do not like it, or at least prefer another style of BC to it - (and that is with a large bp/wing crowd voting I'm sure - which means it's probably a higher percentage) As a result I now know that there are a lot more who do not like it out there than previously thought (There are many posts which imply "everyone likes them that tries them") Funny thing is that this should be a "plus" for those who are tired of hearing the bp/w argument. In all the posts that I had read I'd only come across 2-3 folks who had ever voiced a dislike for the bp after trying one, now I know there are more out there.

Conclusions:

Does this change what I'm going to dive? - nope never was intended too - either way, in my limited experience I'm happy and comfortable with my rig so far.

Does this change what others think? - doesn't really matter, does it?

Does this change what might be recommended to others? - ahh now we have a winner... more than ever the end result is "try before you buy" no matter what you decide. Does that mean I'll quit recommending bp's? nah - they are still pretty unknown to many divers and they have the right to know about them no matter what style of BC they choose. But I'd be more careful about saying "you will love it and throw out your old BC instantly" (Though the majority will still probably like them ;) )

I'll see where the numbers go, but in reality - that's all for now folks and thanks for putting up with my inquiries into the topic as of late. As you already know if I have more questions I'll ask... in the meantime I hope I can get a few dives in this week... (and yes I'm working on #50 - I was hoping by the end of this month .... but looks like I'll fall just a wee bit short) - Hermosadive, you're fortunate to have fallen in with a group of DM's - With my buddies I'm happy to get 2 dives in each week, I really need to find more dive buddy's I guess.

Aloha, Tim

P.S. for those that are wondering why I spend so much time here... I work a night job part time (4 nights/week) and Scubaboard helps keep me awake and alert :) SB is better than caffeine ;)
