Poll: I tried a BackPlate/Wing and...

Only 35 dives on it, but I don't plan on going back to a jacket. I found I have much finer boyancy control with the wing. Probably only me but with the jacket it seemed like if I got within a foot of the surface I was going up, with the wing I can hang inches below and enjoy the view. Maybe it was just a cheap inflator

I have three BP/W's; one set up for doubles SS BP with DR Classic. Two for singles; DR plastic BP with 40 lb single wing.

Left one in Cozumel at the house; while I use the other at home. Like them much better than my Black Diamond or Dacor jacket.

Simple easy to use, streamlined, keeps you horizontial with no effort and are almost bulletproof.

Really had no trouble getting use to the BP/W since I dove a Black Diamond and was already use to not overinflating.

The crotch strap keeps the whole system very secure.

I, for one (the only one, apparently), prefer a jacket. I was in the woods, the path forked, and I took the less littered one, and that has made all the difference.

Before I tried a backplate and wings I was ridiculed by squirels, dive boats would break down on the way out to the site and fish would laugh, heck, I couldn't even dive, I would giant stride and the water would bounce me back onboard.

The first time I tried a BP/wings my SAC rate improved and I could outrun an SS, after the dive another diver gave me his lunch he was so impressed, I got better gas mileage on the drive home even my girlfriend noticed a stronger, longer lasting experience. Oh, and the next day I solved the world hunger problem, captured Osama Bin Laden and found Jimmy Hoffa.

I have tried both, and I prefer the BI BC. Not that there is anything wrong with a BP/W, but I simply prefer the BI BC. Unfortunately, there is no "I have used it, but prefer my weight integrated of jacket BC" option. Slanted poll?? Maybe.

I do have a question though - doesn't the BP/W get enough coverage on ScubaBoard without needing a poll every week? I don't mind the polls, but are the really necessary? If you let this poll go on for a week, you are going to get the same basic responses, from basically the same people, as the other polls that have been posted...

There is a large BP/W fan club here on ScubaBoard. If we all admit it and agree that we can all co-exsist on these forums, we can save a ton of server space for the people who own the site.

If you need to qualify, or justify, your BP/W, can't you wax poetic on every "What do you think of BC X" thread that is posted???

This is not against you personally, Tim, so please don't be offended, and I don't mean it nearly as negative as it may come off when reading. I am simply asking if it is really needed and helpful to the community...

BP/W all the way for me. I guess my situation is slightly different than most though - I keep a plate, webbing, and all of the rest of my stuff at my vacation home and only fly back and forth with my reg, wetsuit, and wing - which I regularly service. However, even if I were to carry it all it sure takes up a lot less space in my bag than my old Oceanic back inflate.

Switched from a SeaQuest ProQD+ to a DiveRite BP+Wing system. I am in love with it.

Have to admit Like My Zeagler Niterider just got Plate and wing to try had tried once before. Stability is only evident advantage I can see. If you don't get all on Zeagle cinched up properly can be a bit tipsy until you fix-it underwater. But much easier to get in and out of and with Zeagle back weight pockets I can balance my weight just as well. JURY STILL OUT
