[sigpic][/sigpic] allows an external link to a picture in your
signature.
[sigpic][/sigpic] also allows us to limit the width and the height of the signature picture.
I know it wasn't intentional but a side effect of this change is that its easy to adblock all of a user's sigpics with
Firefox 3 +
Adblock Plus.
If you adblock just the current sigpic of an SB member whose username is
username, for example:
http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/avatars/username.gif?type=sigpic&dateline=1234567890
...then the next time they change their sigpic or the timer resets, a new
&dateline=1234567890 number will get generated and you have to look at the new one (until you block that one, and the next, and the next...).
But if you adblock the image without the
&dateline parameter (or if you replace it with an asterisk "*" ), for example:
http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/avatars/username.gif?type=sigpic
http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/avatars/username.gif?type=sigpic*
...then the next time they change their sigpic, you will still adblock any new image they may decide to change their sigpic to.
Even better, if they are doing something goofy with their avatar pic to get around this, you can block
all of their SB hosted images by editing out anything after the question mark "?", for example:
http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/avatars/username.gif
http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/avatars/username.gif*
So you don't have to turn off all avatars or all signatures, just right mouse click on the image, click "Adblock Image..." and edit after everything starting at the question mark "?" after the the username.gif part then you don't get bombarded by whatever
cause celebre they might be shilling.
