I'm going to be on a boat in the Bahamas for about 6 months. Spearfishing is illegal, so I need to get a polespear.

LOTS of e-research has yielded a bunch of different viewpoints.

But at this point my dilemma is this: Should I spend $200+ on a Henley, or $30 on a cheapo polespear?

I plan on doing a lot of spearfishing so I dont mind spending the money, but at the same time I dont want to spend $250 wehn I could be spending way less.

Any thoughts?

$30 on a cheap-o JBL with a $15 swiveling double barbed tip. Make sure you can use a polespear out there - it may be considered spearfishing - check on local laws.

Polespears are a hellovalotta fun, enjoy!

go with the JbL pole spear, about $30 is about the most I would pay, they are not exactly complex peices of equiptment, I perfer the 3 prong paralyzer tip, with barbs

JBL is a great poles spear....go with the seven foot...good length

Two things:

If you are going to be out there for 6 months, it's very possible you might break or even lose a fair amount of gear. Having some back ups is very important. That points to a couple cheaper poles and several heads verses one expensive rig.

Secondly, what do you want to shoot?

I know there are some good pole shooters out there this won't apply to, but many including myself, prefer a Hawaiian sling to a pole for anything but lobster, and especially for bigger fish where more range is needed. Spears can be straightened, so a simple wooden sling and several spears may be the best, and least expensive way to go.

JBL Is the way to go barb tip. ( paralyzer tip is for gomers that can't aim ) be sure to
take extra bans and tips, and maybe a file to keep them sharp.
