I have hunted in Gtmo. Cuba and loved it! Used a small pnuematic and shot 100% (no really). I am looking for a compact pnuematic like the Mares, but was recently told that you can not take them to Mexico because the gas chamber "makes it a gun." Anyone have suggestions? Never used a band gun before. Further suggestions on bands vs. pnuematics? I like easy and accurate...

Thank you,
Jim aka Desert Pig

Jim;
I know people that regularly go in and out of Mexico with pneumatic spearguns. Mares are the best in my opinion. If you feel better with a band gun then get a Riffe. Riffe's are expensive, but worth every penny. With Mares, go with the "sten" line.

Thank you - But have any of your friends been stopped at the border and questioned? I just don't want the hassle, but the Mares Sten with the leg holster is exactly what I was shopping. I will also check out the Riffe.

Thanks again!

Jim,

You should not have troubles travelling internationally w/ any spearguns. I just returned from mex via air with my sporasub banded guns. I call it spearfishing equipment and no problemo. Pneumatics shouldn't be any different. Are you travelling via car or air? Anyhow it shouldn't be a big deal if checked baggage, just reiterate if asked, spearfishing equipment not spearguns.

Jim;
People from California make regular trips into Mexico to spearfish. It's been going on since the 50's. Give Jay Riffe or Julie an e-mail or call. They really have the background and experience. Or, one of the dive stores in San Diego.

We carry a Cressi-Sub gun that is very popular and as far as I know Mexico allows you in and out with it. The airlines don't really like them........but you can understand that.
