Hi all,

Dr.RNA and I are planning to do some shore dives on the weekend. I dove with the Diver Down II a few weeks ago, but haven't done any shore diving. Since we both are not familiar with access routes/shore diving spots etc., I was wondering whether any of you had some suggestions as to where to go/not to go and how you get there, need high-clearance/4-WD etc.? Maybe we could meet up with some of you guys? There will be 4 people in our group, all well past AOW, experience in the 40-100 dives range.

Sorry about the typo in the title...

The best shore diving site in Lake Pleasant is Scorpion Bay. However, I don't know if it's still open. When the water level gets too low getting out is impossible without rock climbing gear. The other possible spots are Dirty Shirt and Desert Tortoise Rd. Desert Tortoise can be pretty good when the water level is low enough to allow access to Burro Island area. None of these sites require 4x4, but high clearance is nice, though not required. Another site is Vista Point, on the marina side, however, it's quite a hike down to the water when the level is low.

I'll have an updated report on Scorpion this weekend, but last weekend it was nearing the non-diveable state rather quickly! It was a challenge with doubles on, singles probably wouldn't have been too bad. The low water level sure makes for some fun jumps off the cliff (ok, it's a just a large boulder, but it sure is fun!)

Hi guys!
Thanks for your feedback! I take it the entry at Scorpion Bay gets too steep to climb out when water level is too low? Can one pull up the vehicle close enough to tie a rope and let it dangle into the water?

When access at scorpion bay gets bad, just move over to the point at dirty shirt.

Great. Will do. I read there's a wall dive spot at scorpion bay. Could anyone describe how to find that?

You can drive pretty close, but it's a sheer wall. Difficult to get out without gear on, let alone with gear. Besides, once the water level drops that low, all that's interesting there is pretty much exposed to air.
