The crocs come when you call them? That sounds a little squirrelly since you might be "calling them" when you don't realize it.

Anyone who gets into the water in the mangroves will potentially interact with a crocodile. The mangroves are nowhere near the reef and there is no need to go for a swim in the mangroves. A lot of people never do.

Prior to the videos below, the DG had called for Nino repeatedly, and clapped and whistled for quite a while before Nino showed up in the distance and then tentatively made his way over to our dive boat in the mangroves. Here is some video as he got closer:

We dove at the edge of the mangroves in Raja Ampat, mostly to see the triggerfish (that spit water at prey above the surface). Definitely the last thing I wanted to see was a croc coming out of the darkness of the mangroves, particularly a croc in the Pacific.
