My heart goes out to this sailor's daughter and family. It's very sad that tourists traveling to Honduras or even cruising around Honduran waters are not safe. Crime in general, but especially drug-related murders and robberies are worse than ever on the mainland and also on Roatan. The authorities don't even keep accurate statistics and we only hear about a small percentage of crimes being committed. Unfortunately, there is no Honduran justice system and even if a criminal is identified and caught, its difficult to put them away. They are back out on the streets within hours. There is a lot of discussion about this murder on the boater's net and blogs with interesting comments from sailors who cruise the Caribbean waters. Incidents like this can only have a negative impact on tourism in this poor country.
