Hey all,

I finally stole some time to load the photos from the Saturday Pac Star trip to Catalina. Highlights include:

Lightbulb tunicates with good detail

Lots of rockfish. Mostly kelp rockfish but possibly a canary and possibly a grass.... or maybe they're all kelp rockfish. I'm unsure!!

A vibrantly colored black-eyed goby. It's the most colorful one I've seen!

Large green abalone

Three different sea stars

Mermaid's purse (aka a swell shark egg casing) and you can easily see the embryo inside

Seed-pods in surfgrass

Funny blue-banded gobies all hanging over a ledge watching a lobster below. It reminds me of people hanging out on the fire escape of an apartment building in the heat of summer, watching someone down on the street.

And the funniest of all uw photo subjects is at the very end.... ;)

Enjoy!

I see Jason has changed his avatar from a picture of his daughter to a picture of his sister Richard Ramirez!:icon10:

Is that HIS reg in his grill or yours?

Just curious if you had the presence of mind when Hoover Supreme rolled over to you with 500 LBs and went all OOA (at, what, 36 FSW???) to snap a pic of the magic moment.... You know, before he expired.

:D

OMG Ken.... I don't know if I'm laughing right now because of the martini I just consumed or because you're so damned funny....

The last pix were taken long before TV signaled that he was going up. It was actually a very relaxing dive even with me fumbling around for my flashlight and subsequently releasing one of my weight pouches; and then later, with dive buddy suddenly needing to share air. Really relaxing.... like almost a yawn dive except for spotting the horn sharks inside the reef.

Maybe because I have done a decent number of solo dives I tend not to panic when "things" arise. Or maybe because underwater is one of the most relaxing places to me on this Earth.... or maybe I just Zen underwater... but 2 potentially stressful situations were not to me at all. I just deal. Stop, think, act.

The very best thing about that last dive was the beauty of the reef structure... the geology. The layers of rock and the beauty in which they were arranged was the very best element of the last dive. It was a gorgeous site. More marine life would have been a very nice added feature!
