Wait... so, this is all about when I press the little button to blow up the balloon thingy on my whaddyacallit vest?

Gravity is not just a good idea, it's the law!

... or when ya' push the other little button and make all the nifty bubbles as you rocket into the murky darkeness below... (... or the not so murky and not so darkness if you're blessed enough to be diving someplace cool... er... warm...)
:rofl3:

What's next? Hot Water Heaters.
Or making us get on the airplane instead of getting in the airplane.

In an aviation course or two that I took there were folks that referred to negative lift. That always caused a bit of problem with me.

Some places are magical and open up as you rocket past the murkiness and darkness below. Above 70' and the water is as thick as mud, but below the thermocline, it looks and tastes like gin. And there are little wooden boats that quietly sail into history :D

Haven't found one of those yet... most of the places down here go from murkey... to dark... to... ummm... darker. Guess I'll have to keep lookin'...

By the way dude... where'd ya' get that way cool drysuit hood (looked at yer' profile pic)... That's what I call a true original... love it.

:cool2:

I picked it up at the grocery store and custom fitted it while underwater ;)

Regarding the freshwater magic, even places like Mermet will have this- the 100' platform is sometimes clear, but dark. If you bring a light you can easily see across it, as compared to 20' where the vis can be miss or hit.

To get this back on topic, to get to the 100' platform, you need to make sure your gear is suitable for the depth and temps, then simply release the oxygen from your BC to make yourself positively anti-buoyant. (Sorry Tom- if it's any consolation, I would watch a movie with you, as long as there is at least one empty seat between us.)

I don't remember saying or writing "negative buoyancy", although it is possible I've used the term in response to someone using that term. I think using a few more words solves the dilemma; describing an object as "negatively buoyant" does not offend my accuracy feelings.

Here in the Islands I've grown very tired of divers asking if we have any diving IN Kauai (or IN Oahu, or IN Maui, or IN the Big Island). We dive OFF; Kauai, Oahu, Maui and the Big Island!

Well ... if you were to ask a Philosopher he would say that Archimedes Principle would be more accurate since, due to the problem of induction, we cannot know for certain that it is, in fact, a law. Additionally the definition of what constitutes a law [in the scientific world] is rather ill defined whereas the definition of a principle or theory isn't.

So now for those who haven't added me to their ignore list for mentioning physics
That is one of the less obvious reasons to ignore somebody who begins a post by telling us how smart he thinks he is.;)
