I love the crowds (and the weird), so will be staying at Patong for the start. If I dislike it, I could always hop to the other beaches later.
As for the food, I have plans to eat around the island! Would love to try a different restaurant and eatery every night... Mmmm... Yummm... ;)

Don't know much about Restaurants in Patong as I hardly ever go there. Nevertheless in Kata for Thai food:
Kata Pen Seafood or Kata Mamma Restaurant (same family) - directly on the southern end of Kata Beach next to the Reggae bar under the tree.
For Italian food when you get all Thai'd out - Alla Capanina in Kata opposite The Kata Beach Resort. Undoubtedly the best pizzas on the island. If you go there don't order a large as you would get it served with a separate table! A favourite for many ex pat and local divers in the area.
For a special treat in Kata - Mom Tris Villa Royale or The Boathouse. Expensive fine dining. Fusion of Thai/western cuisine.
Weather update today: cloudy and drizzling. Changes from day to day!!!

Patong beach is pretty big but for class and style kata / Kata Noi and karon get my vote, perhaps you can help me on my weekly beach cleanups ?
James

Thanks orangelemon. Do I get any free food in return for the beach cleanup? Hahaha... ;)

Places to eat in Phuket

Have a good trip :)

Thanks Batfish. You have been a great help with all the links which you had mentioned. Bookmarked your blog already! Will definitely enjoy my stay in Phuket. :)

Oh, one more thing, if you people need anything from Singapore, just give me a shout. But I doubt so, since Phuket has so much more cheaper stuff than Singapore. LOL. Still, if you do, just PM me. ;)

Ehello,

I happen to be going mid july to Phuket for about a week as well. Not sure if we'll bump into each other.

Am going over for a Liveonboard...awaiting for the operators to get back to me though.

Have you found a place to stay? Think currently, the going rates are from 800 to 1500 baht. Food wise, this is a low season, you should not get any hotel simple fried rice for more than 300 baht. And make sure you order food from the "hawker" ensure you ask especially when it comes to seafood they charge by weight. A squid can cost you up to 1000baht.

Careful with pickpockets though when you shop along the pasar malam, keep your haversack closed and no wallet inside. For accomodation, avoid Bangla street as that is their "red light" and tons of rowdy people around. There should be some backpackers inn that are reasonable. Actually I bet you have contacted some dive centres there. Check them out if they got a decent accomodation that offers breakfast. Good to have a safe in the room as well.

But...normally most of the accomodation in Phi Phi do not have unless you stay in the 3 stars and above.

;)

I will be in Phuket for two weeks from the 9th, so we might just happened to bump into each other. ;)

Found two nice little guesthouses which I would like to stay in. Will check them out when I get to Patong. :)
