Most live-aboards arrange trips until May and I was there in
April 2 years ago and had no problems.

Are you thinking of a live-aboard to Similan? During the first night there
is often a rough sea, but usually you can find a calm bay to anchor
over the night during the week. Of course it is better with a big
sturdy boat. I was there over Xmas and New Year this year and
had som pretty bad days... but it didn't stop us as we found sites
that weren't that rough.

In fact I will go this year in April as well. So perhaps I'll see you
with the whale sharks?!

Yes, beginning of April is excellent, end of April cn be excellent, though the wind can start to blow from the West by then. Last year the "monsoon" wind started in April, the year before in June. However, as TJO said, you will be sheltered in the Similan Islands and only might have a bouncy crossing the first night. Local dives are all OK in April.

Happy Travels

Hey TJO,

Me too there over Christmas and New Year, 29th, 30th & 31st were not to pleasant, we ended up sheltered at Princess Bay on the scubacat. still even if its raining above water the diving was excellent. Mantas, Leopards, white tips, Ribbon eels etc......

Hey Jamila, go for it, tremendous place to go diving.

If you have some time check out my photos, probably the best stuff I ever took.

Hi Neil,

Yeah, there were some really bad days in Dec/Jan. But like you said
diving was really good. I will have a look on your photos. I saw the
Scubacat. What do you think about it? I was on the 'Viking of the
Orient' which is an excellent boat.

But watch out for a famous holiday "Songkran" or Water Festival. It will be around 12-16 April. The sea will be crowded with divers from all over Thailand.

I was there on New Year eve too. The sea was so bad when the strom came. We saw a Manta Ray at Bon Island. The trip was quite OK.

BTW, you can visit my web site at

I have information about liveaboard trips and day trips.
