Dove the Breakwater with Mark and some other SB members who gave us a tour to the Metridium Field and our second dive was just cruising around the kelp.

The attached are some of the better photos. Many of the fish I can't ID so if anyone can give me a hand, that'd be great. I really need to order a book.....

Either a black rockfish (Sebastes melanops) or blue rockfish (Sebastes mystinus), can't tell at this angle.

Black perch (Embiotoca jacksoni)

Pile perch (Rhacochilus vacca)

Rainbow perch (Hypsurus caryi)

sarita75,

Sounds like you had a wonderful time and you got some great pictures! What kind of camera are you shooting with?

Also, this is a great site by Clinton for identifying marine life in monterey(at least the main stuff):

Happy Bubbles!

Thanks all for the information. I have updated the photos in my album to reference the correct names. I was right on the Kelp fish and the Rainbow serfperch, but the others I was a bit clueless about. :)

Buck - it was a great time. I was using a Canon A710 with the Canon housing and only the on-board flash. I had to edit out alot of the backscatter, esp on the fish photos. The Metridium shots and the bat stars came out pretty clear.

Thanks for the Metridium.com site. I have bookmarked it for the future .... :)

Thanks again all!

Cool photos! :) I'm getting a strobe setup for my camera in the next few weeks to help with some of the lighting problems i've had with the internal flash. Did you see the swell shark at the Metridium Fields? I typically have trouble identifying some of the perch too, although I know they're perch. :)
