Philippines March 12 -... 27(ish)

OK, I'm doing this crazy trip, I'm going to Cambodia in about a week, and hanging around for about 10 - 12 days, then I'm going to head to Donsol on the 12th of March to do a Whale shark thing (if you locals have a better suggestion for Whale sharks... please, let me know). until about the 16th.

So, from the 17th of March to about the 27th, I will have a bunch of scuba gear that I am going to have to drag around, and seeing as it's easier to carry when submerged, I'd like some suggestions on places to go. I know there are probably a million posts on this, but I am SSSOOO researched out from organising Cambodia and the various Wats, that I just can no longer do any more searching. So, any ideas on cool dive sites that are not too hard to get to from Manila (within about $200ish air fare) would be greatly appreciated Or even sites near/in Manila.

I'm also up for any bored locals willing to show a tourist the local sites in exchange for beer, lunch and.. umm... that is all.

Balicasag Island in Bohol, Puerto Galera in Mindoro, Malapascua in Cebu, Apo Island (Dumaguete) and Southern Leyte. Wait for Jag, Chip and Spoon to chime in.

if you're travelled out from the 10-12hour bus ride from donsol you have very good diving available in either anilao or puerto galera.

anilao is about 2.5 hours from manila and the 200 you're saving on airfare will probably last you a few days of diving (depending on the resort)

PG is also a diving hotspot and is about 3-3.5 hours from manila inclusive of the ferry crossing... lots of good resorts and excellent diving there too... dives average 20$ per but ops give discounts if you book several dives with them

There will be a lot of SBers in the PI during that time. We will be in PG from the 12th to the 19th, I'm staying until the 26th. We are also spending a week in Dumaguete from the 5th to the 12th. We are all looking forward to meeting our friends the PPD!

spoon chiming in! errr will defintely suggest dumaguete specifically apo island, while your at it you can also check out bohol/balicasag area then make your way to puerto gallera/ there will be a big group of ppds on march 17-19. try to drop by

have to say ditto on the be at Puerto Galera for 17-19. Then stay a bit longer or head over to anilao (for a night). then fly out to Bohol or Duma for a couple of days. I'm leaning towards bohol cause there's a bunch of other stuff to do there (chocolate hills, taziers, and river cruise).

But be there on the 17-19. And we can debate why motorcyclists are organ donors.
