Hi,

I need diver volunteers to help out at Monastery Beach Sunday April 27, 2008. If you're available and we can sort out what you can do.

Monastery Video Shoot
Sunday April 27, 2008
Time to be announced as we are getting approvals to cross the Big Sur Marathon Blockade. I'm shooting for 9 or 10 AM.
Location: Monastery Beach
To Volunteer: e-mail me at: docwong@aol.com

We are now entering Phase 2 of our project, the video taping of entering and exiting and other procedures at Monastery Beach. I'm hoping for a day that is somewhat rough, yet divable to do the video work.

Rangers and staff from the Department of Parks and Recreation along with Carmel Highlands Fire Dept and Lifeguards will be on hand to assist and be interviewed.

I need volunteers to:

1. Spotter on the beach.
2. Spotter in the water
3. Diver entering and exiting doing the various techniques
4. Additional video camera crew with tripods.
5. Diver getting rolled in the surf. (Doc Wong has already volunteered for this one)

To summarize for those of you that have not followed the Monastery threads, we are doing 2 activities that are designed to make Monastery a safer place to visit.

1. There will be 2 different types of signs made. The one mentioned above is one of them and designed to replace the existing ones. The second is a larger 4' x 4' sign specifically for scuba divers and is still in the design phase and will be based on the input from our Monastery Panel Discussion that we did a few weeks ago.

2. We are producing a Monastery Video that will be posted on the Dept of Parks and Recreation's web site and on other diving related sites that will show some suggested do's and don'ts of diving at Monastery. There are 4 phases to this program. Phase 1 was to hold and video tape the Monastery Panel Discussion, Phase 2 is to do video of the techniques discussed at the Monastery Discussion Panel, Phase 3 is to edit to a finished video based on our dive community input and Dept of Parks and Recs' recommendations and input.

Dive Safe!

Depending on how many hours you need people for, I would be willing to assist.

Let me know if I can be of assistance.

Great, I don't anticipate being there for more than 3 hours. Any help would be appreciated and you don't have to stay the whole time.

The church group that recently had 2 of their members drown at Monastery will be there for a memorial and perhaps an interview with us.

Doc,

I believe that I will be available that Sunday to help. I don't know that I want to volunteer to be thrown around in the ocean, but I can probably help in some other capacity. Let me know as it comes together what area(s) you may need help with. I can keep the day open - I'm all for making it safer and possibly saving lives by educating us all on safety.

Tessa

Awesome, I can use everyone. I'll post the final details of the times as I'm coordinating with CHP, Fire and Rangers.

I'll probably be there but having not done Monastery before, I don't think I will sign up. But if you need me, I bet I'll be there. :D Will be nice to see Part 2 ........

Yes, Sara, I could definitely use your help. Can you help coordinate people that need to be interviewed? It'll be a matter of getting them to sign the video release and then getting them to the video interview station.

Oops it's April 27th and not March 27th

It's all set. Department of Parks and Rec, fire department, life guards and our group of volunteers are confirmed for the Sunday March 27, 2008 9AM Monastery Video Shoot.

This also happens to be the Big Sur Marathon race. Hwy 1 will be closed at Rio Road on Hwy 1 starting at 5:30 AM. They will however be escorting convoys of people from Rio Road to Monastery Beach when the line of cars get big enough.

Let's all be at Hwy 1 and Rio Road before 8:45 AM, we will be detoured to a parking lot in the Cross Roads Shopping Center where we will be on a scheduled caravann to Monastery Beach. If you're a bit late, you'll just have to wait until there are enough cars waiting to go south-bound to be escorted to Monastery.

The main goal of the day is to shoot beach entrys, exits, getting rolled in the surf and doing interviews with divers, fire department, Dept of Parks and Rec, life guards and perhaps the church group that lost 2 members there recently.

Please confirm by e-mailing me if you're coming to help.

Volunteer jobes:

1. Videotaping. Our lead videographer is a professional who will have HD video and microphones, but we'll need a backup video person with HD video or good SD camera to video from a second angle.

2. Divers in wet or drysuits standing ready to assist in the surf.

3. Volunteers to enter and exit the water with their scuba gear.

4. Volunteers to get rolled in the surf and demonstrate self rescue.

5. Small private boat waiting outside the surf zone ready to assist.

6. a Volunteer to round up people that need to be interviewed, get them to sign the video disclaimer and get them to the interview station for interview.

Thanks for your help!

Doc - Mark, Michelle, Michelle's friend and I will be there. I will be available to do whatever on the surface, Michelle and Mark maybe diving if they can and are not needed otherwise. Michelle doesn't mind being video'd for her entry, but would prefer to not be a volunteer to show exit procedures.

I'll bring the new camera and be ready to do whatever needs to be done..... within reason of course!!!

And I'd love to dive afterwards if anyone is around, interested, etc.....

Looking forward to this!
