Having my tanks sat behind my armpits leaves 6in hose a little short when bringing them forward.

hell, having 9" behind my armpits leaves them quite short.... I may actually be going back to lollipops after this last trip because it was so annoying to try to find the pressure gauges, especially with stages on

That is the way I have my tanks and have the same problem, after I put the gauges under the tank strap I can look easier to my gauges, but those extra 3 inches will make even more flexible and easier

With 6" I can grab them and check alright, but I don't think my cylinders sit as far back as yours so 9" should give me the smidge more length I'm after.

mine are a little bit higher up, but i have a rather large chest at 52" so that's half the battle....

I keep mine SPGs on a 7 feet hose. If I am donating a 7 feet regulator hose, there is no need to keep that person in the dark about the tank pressure.
