Hey Savant
Just got back from Perhentian/Redang and the jellyfish are already there!!! You should definitely bring your longs if you are going early June.
Having just come back from both islands, I would say go to Perhentian for sure, as it is just so much more pleasant - Redang is now so built up and commercialised and full of snorkellers!
The visibility was disappointing when we were there but as keralucu says, every dive is a good dive...
have a good trip!

Did you get stung, Seaslug? Hope you had a good time....

Yes, every dive is a good dive and I'm desperate to get back in the water... this weekend hopefully - Hard Deep if I'm lucky.

Cheers all

boy oh boy am i psych up abt the trip next week. better pass the message to the rest of my divers too so that everyone is prepared for the jellies .....sheeze......

alright guys, cheers;)

No I was lucky - I had my dive skin on and escaped injury apart from some slight welts on the hand. The guys in shorties (or nothing!) really suffered though - because apart from the bad vis, we had currents and the jellies were EVERYWHERE!

I love jellies normally, they look amazing when the vis is fantastic - you feel like you are in a sci-fi movie!

By the way, in case you do get stung, forget stingose - the best cure is still lime, sliced in half and rubbed over the affected body bit. I swear by this!

Savant, where did you decide to go in the end? And where are you staying??

Look out for the nursesharks in Perhentian - they were EVERYWHERE...

:doctor:

i got a few suggestions...
i m based in redang and i know the place quite well....

if u really need quotaions and expected prices u can message me...

i always say that just come and see, don just believe....
try checking other resorts and u will get better prices......

Redang is better than perhentian....more great dive spots...
but u really need good dive masters...

actually a lot of nudibranch..
maybe whale shark....
beyond expectation .....

thanks for all your input everybody, but i just returned from perhentian and i thought it was fabulous!!!! wonderful visibility of close to 20m at times but usually in the 15m range which is a certain imporvement from what i have seen in the past year.

anyway, the living was horrendous though, if anyone heading u, i suggest you give rajawali at coral beach a miss as the service there is terrible!!! and i mean terrible!!! i aint some spoilt brat that needs hot water and such but i actually had to go to the reception 4 times before having my water supply switched on. on top of that, some of my dive buddies were in the middle of bathing when the water went off. all of us ended up bathing with the outside tap. to top it off, they have the audacity to request RM60 for the usage of the room a further 3 hrs after check out as our speedboat back was later in the afternoon.....

but apart from that, it was spectacular with nurse sharks as seaslug had mentioned on this discussion. they were hiding under the rocks and such. saw a big one of about a meter whereas the others were pretty small. was greeted by giant baracudas, turtles, black tip reef sharks, sting rays and of course lots and lots of jelly fish!!!!! i had the fortune to avoid them all till the last dive when i actuallyy got stung 3 times. i was wearing sort of a shorty thats why ....... mind you, i still have the marks to show .......... ouch!!!

but if anyone is heading down there, most people would say Perhentian Besar (the big island) would be better to stay as the facilities would be up to our high standards. But i wd definitely suggest this, head over to long beach on the small island, i tell you, those who have partied at koh phangan for the full moon party ...this beach certainly has the ability to imitate their success. pristine beaches line up the coast with wonderous restaurants and chill out areas which serve milkshakes that would certainly brighten up your day affter a long daay diving. ;)

It was hard to pull myself away after the fourth day but ... sigh ...had to go home, time to check out other dive sites. any questions on thed island, can sure message me ..... cheers.:)
