Countries that have stood up and will not vote to lift the ban on commercial whaling
so far include:
South Africa
Australia
New Zealand
Chile
Germany

I'll add to it as I find more....

I am still baffled that our clown in chief has lead the effort to lift ban. He is the gift that keeps giving for us conservative folk. 5 months to midterms baby!

Thanks for the info DTG!

"As president, I will ensure that the U.S. provides leadership in enforcing international wildlife protection agreements, including strengthening the international moratorium on commercial whaling. Allowing Japan to continue commercial whaling is unacceptable." -- then-Senator Barack Obama.

What an outrageous lie! I voted for him and I am sorry that I did.

A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

Please keep the discussion civil, name calling is not acceptable whether it be aimed at an individual or an entire country. Since this is the second mod warning in this thread this week for the same problem we may begin issuing thread bans for continued violations.

Sas,

I became a Sea Shepherd supporter 6-7 years ago. At that time I found it shocking
how few people really knew what was going on with regards to whaling. Now you would
be hard pressed to find anyone who did not know what was happening. You may call them
lame, and you are entitled you opinion, but Sea Shepherd has been hugely successful
in shining a light on the subject. That is indisputable. You don't have to like them
but without them we wouldn't be having this discussion.
You can be a cheerleader for Japan all that you want. I appreciate your tenacity.
In that aspect we are alike - just rooting for different teams.
My donation will go to "Operation Blue Rage" in your honor. Now that tuna season ended
early - the fun begins. Look out poachers - Sea Shepherds coming to get ya!
And without the Al Quaida we wouldnt discuss them or what they do or why either, but I wouldnt miss them just because "we discuss it"

Thank you for posting that quote. I am not American, but I contacted the White House and sent a message expressing concern about Obama's current position and used your quote to point out the departure from his presidential campaign promise.

You can leave messages for Obama (or his staff) at Contact the White House | The White House

He's not likely to listen ... he made promises to the Native Americans , many of whom are living in third world conditions, literaly freezing to death .. and has not kept any of them .. even though there have been many calls, letters, and e/mails

The idea of representation is pretty much just that, an idea. In america leaders only answer to their political parties; maybe you should write to the democratic party.

Well, the the numbers of posters on this board can inundate him and make him listen. It's worth a try, isn't it?

In the U.S. and Canada, it is a representative democracy, not a true democracy in the strictest sense where each citizen would get a vote on each issue. So one of your only chances of influencing the policies is to express your opinions. I see no harm in that but can see potential benefit.

Well its a republic, which means there is still some representation that is present. BUT, my point is merely that we elect platforms, not politicians that will take our wants and enact them. I dont know if you noticed, but not one person in the house or senate works based on what their people want, they work based on what their party platform is. It is taken that if a majority of people in a voting district vote for a party they are selecting the platform. Not how it was intended to be, but its how it worked out in the end :-/

Nevertheless, you should write to your congressman/woman and the president. The worst that happens is they will ignore you, and the best is that they will take your comments to heart. I did my writing; lets hope for the best.
