Have y'all seen the new Passport app for your smart phone? Right now, it might be faster than Global Entry. As more and more people get on it, GE will be the better way to go. But, for now, I got through in about the same amount of time using the app as going through the GE line - maybe faster, as I was able to fill out all the information while waiting for my flight in CZM, and not at the Global Entry kiosk.

When I got GE 5 years ago, they gave me Nexus for free too?

I didn't get that perk in either my application or my renewal. It's an extra $50 on the TTP website. I'm going to Canada for the first time since 9/11 soon, but it's not worth the $50 as this might be the only time I would be going in the next five years.

Yes the mobile passport app is nice. Waiting on checked bags is the only thing that slows the process down.

Thanks for your input! So in my case my latest passport is over 15 years old (although I have a current passport card). And that is a qualifier for "in person" renewal.

I remember one Sunday morning after traveling all night Atlanta had nobody there to screen us in. Three flights with over 200 passengers each all sat waiting in a line...one person doing all the work.
Finally a second person showed up.

Wasn't anything that would help that scene.

That is the beauty of global entry. You stick your passport and fingers into a machine and then walk through without talking to a human...

Hmm. My experience has been that the Global Entry kiosk spits out a receipt, then you stand in a (usually short) line to hand the receipt to a CBP agent, who has always said something to me, such as "welcome home." Last time coming back from a dive trip the agent said something about a shirt I was wearing.

Same. I do have to give the receipt to someone, but any conversation is usually short if there is one at all. If anything, it's small talk and "welcome home" as well.

Last time the dude asked what I did for a living.....told him I was a Tequila quality tester and then went on my merry way :-)

Passport in hand! Took 5 weeks. So if you don't want to pay the expedite fee of $60.00 for a U.S. passport you may take about this long to get yours. Just a heads up. :)
