I lived there for awhile and I also had divers staying there a coupe of weeks ago.

Beautiful place and very convenient for the most part. Just be warned that they do not have a pier and Del Mar , which is the closest (across the street) will NOT let you use the pier if you are not staying at the hotel or diving with their shop - paying is not even an option - they claim for liability reasons. So you will have to make arrangements to meet your boat elsewhere if diving with another op.

Thanks for the response! I haven't booked my dives yet. But I am looking at Blue project because I have friends already booked with them. They are staying at Palmar. Wich is why we are. What is the best restaurant within walking distance? I have been to Cozumel via cruise ship. But have never stayed on the island. I am looking forward to it!

We stayed there and loved it. Beautifully appointed and spacious. It was one of the places that we considered for our June/July trip this year. One really great thing is that the balconies sit at kind of an angle to the ocean, which means that you are not looking directly into the west. The balconies get a lot more shade and are enjoyable for more of the day if the sun is really hot.

In my opinion, the best restaurant within walking distance is Blue Angel.

As Christi pointed out, it is not very close to a pick up spot. You might want to consider a dive-op that will take care of your gear to avoid lugging it around so much. I can't comment on the gear storage situation at Palmar since we didn't have to deal with that.

I've stayed at Casa del Mar, the hotel just south of Palmar, many times. The closest restaurant is Paprika which also serves Tikila the bar right across the street. About a block south of Paprika is Ernesto's Fajita Factory. Going north the closest restaurant is probably La Hach? Feels like about 4 blocks north of Palmar.

The closest docks from Palmar are probably south of the CDM pier. I have no idea if it's possible, but maybe you could arrange to pay Scuba Shack, or the dive shop that services the Park Royal. I think people staying there pay $5/week to use the dock closest to the hotel. Too bad that CDM won't allow people to pay. They appear to have plenty of lockers now. Maybe the issue comes up so rarely that it'd be a pain to make provision.

If you're lugging gear, I think I'd try to find a way to pay for both dock usage and locker rental. If you dive with Scuba Shack or any of the concierge dive ops at the end of the CDM pier, you're set. The concierge handles, (I think) Pro Dive, Cozumel Marine World, and one other shop, not Dive Paradise. Del Mar Aquatics also has an actual shop on the CDM pier but is no longer affiliated with CDM.
I don't know if you get a locker when diving with the concierge shops, but I'd suspect you do because they're hooked up with CDM, who apparently owns the building where the lockers are located. (And the pier as far as I've been told, though maybe Del Mar Aquatics also has some ownership?)

Same applies to diving with an op that handles your gear. You'd only need to find a way to get on the boat. If you have to take a taxi to the caletta to get on a boat, I think it's 70 pesos from Casa Del Mar to the caletta.

Thanks for the reply's. We are meeting another couple down there that have been vacationing on the Island for years. I just like to get differnt perspectives. I am sure they know the ropes as far as Dive pickup etc. I am hooked up with Blue Project for the diving. Can't wait. Thanks again!
