ok, so I'm celebrating NY with a nice bout of the flu or a cold or whatever it is (runny eyes, sneezing, coughing, sinus congestion, achy)...of course, it's a weekend and going to my physician isn't an option until Monday. (I won't do a doc-in-the-box because the last one almost gave me a case of gangrene...long story.)

Anyway, I'd like to hear your best OTC / home remedies...I'm taking Allegra, Nasonex, Liquibid-D, and green tea....not much relief so far.

Whine and Cheese: The worst part of being single is not having anyone to fuss over you when you feel rotten.

I've got Homeopathic Dr. Mom (my wife) she's a certified HR specialist I call her a witchdoctor (she HATES that term). I make fun of her "craft" all the time gently of course, yet everytime I feel something coming on I go running to her and she helps me with her Micro Frequency Generator (her wand), I call it witchcraft in a box - (she HATES that also). Only proof I can offer is I haven't been sick 1 day in last 3 years. Prior to that I'd get sick every February and every August like clockwork. So I guess I have no choice now but to believe in miracles <sigh>.

Edit: oh and when I used to get sick, it was for WEEKS at a time, I don't even know the meaning of the 24-hour flu.

Lots of water. If you're still sick after two weeks go to the doctor and get some antibiotics. Lots of water. Everything else is false hope IMO.

BTW Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. Got my antibiotics three days ago and I'm gittin better fast.

ANTIBIOTICS are ONLY used to treat BACTERIAL infections. Most colds and the flu are VIRAL in nature :no
Misusing antibiotics leads to resistant strains of bacteria!

my question was about what OTC meds that provided relief for the symptoms...there's dozens on the shelf, just trying to pick one that someone had a recommendation for.

If I feel like this two weeks from now, I'll just put my head in the oven...

"Jewish penicillin", also known as chicken soup, usually helps. Watch the sodium if you buy store made.

Sleep and water/fruit juice also helps.

Make sure the various over the counter drugs you are taking aren't fighting each other or causing an accidental overdose of some ingredient.

A mix of honey and whiskey can provide some relief, avoid driving please.

Actually many doctors prescribe what the salespeople tell them is best, they do NOT know if drug A is better then drug B. If you blindly trust your doctor you may die some day from an issue caused by the doctor.

Put on your dry suit undergarments, crawl into bed and sweat it out. While drinking lots of water, take sudafed or a nice glass of ginger brandy. If you don't feel better after the brandy at least you won't care.
