Hey Guys,

I'm a Padi Master Diver, and all the guys i dive with own a dive shop and they teach Naui, I am currently helping out with teaching classes and want to cross certify, and get an AI cert..
My dilema is they want me to redo my master diver as Naui, but from reading on i can go straight to assistant instructor am i right? or not ? a little help here would be great what would be the best way to go? Or what is the proper coarse of action here? thanks a bunch in advance.....swifty:confused:

Padi master diver all you do is get what a couple extra cards and apply for it, Naui master diver you actually learn something . Naui master divers know a lot more than a Padi Dive master if they had a good instructer .

It's Ok to do the crossover, and it shouldn't require any re MSD courses or exams. Someone who says so you do is not aware of the agreement between NAUI, PADI and all the major ones in the busines. At the instructor level there's exception bcs there are differencies in standards etc, but from MSD/DM level to AI it shouldn't be. I have been trained with CMAS, NAUI and PADI :D

As a PADI Master Diver you are not allowed to help teach classes. The shop is breaking standards by allowing you to do that. I'd look for a new shop.

Going straight to bashing without knowing what kind of help is he's giving is "Bushy", but maybe that's the way things are in the US today...
Maybe he just carries tanks and acts as a "crash test dummie" for the intructor making demos:D

You can do the crossover and straight away take NAUI AI or DM.
Here the link NAUI http://www.nauiww.org/leadership_courses.php#ai
Are you doing the NAUI AI course?
What you mean helping out with teaching?

He states:
I am currently helping out with teaching classes
. I interpret that to mean he is assisting in the instruction of the classes. That violates standards. I've seen it happen, so it's not that far fetched an idea.

....The instrutor can make that call based on prior experience and you can go directly into DM, or AI training.......BUT.......the student will be tested on the information found in the Master Scuba Diver Text, and must have FA/CPR and rescue under his belt too. I suggest you do the NAUI MD course prior to attempting the test....:D
even if you're a dive master crossing over it will be tough.

From the site you quoted:
Prerequisites for Entering the Course
General - Meet the requirements applying to all Leadership courses. (See “Policies Applying to Leadership Courses.”)
Materials - (See current guide to NAUI membership.)
Diver Certification - Certification as NAUI Master Scuba Diver and NAUI Scuba Rescue Diver or their equivalent. Divers with evidence of equivalent training and experience may be enrolled provided they pass the NAUI Master Scuba Diver written examination with a minimum score of 75%.
