I agree with maybe half of what he says.....but I disagree that it takes 16 minutes of watching him wave his hands around to say it

Welcome to Youtube, the longer they keep you, the more ads that Youtube can run, thus more revenue. Also the algorithm rewards watch minutes, which gets him more views, and the cycle continues.

Could be worse, there is one firearms personality who was famous for posting just incendiary hot takes to his channel and acted like a abrasive ahole on his videos. When in reality most of it was an act, sure he held those opinions, and was a little abrasive but he purposely went over the top specifically because it got him views and more customers for his training business.

What do you mean by the courses you "have to take"? Are you working toward a goal?

Not really. I don't want to become a divemaster, not sure i could really dedicate enough time to that. I could become 'master scuba diver' but as far as i understand it Is just a honoric title. I am simply trying to become a good diver. Until now i took specialties that are necessary to do that certain dives: nitrox deep drysuit etc. Now i was trying to understand what experienced divers would judge useful and what not completely necessary

Ice diver

In Italy ice diver is useful almost only for diving in the small lakes on the mountains for example in Trentino Alto Adige (let me say close to the border with Austria). So you need both ice and altitude diver. The weather in the flat lands areas is too warm, even though small lakes sometimes frost the ice is thin and it's dangerous to stay on it

Not knowing where you were was one issue, but more importantly I was looking at specialties that would advance your diving skill rather than increase the number of cards in your pocket.

One of the things I have done is pick up second hand dive manuals for specialties, DM, the encyclopedia of diving, and so on. Even though you don't take a class for a card you can gain the knowledge without the class. You never can tell when something you read comes in handy.

You can learn from other divers, you have to learn to separate good from not so good, but in the long run you may find a mentor that will assist you on your journey in scuba.
