Hi,
My daughter and I got certified last year for OWD plus got a few additional dives in. She was 12 so qualified as Junior Open Water. This summer we are going to be diving again and have the possibility to go for Advanced OWD.

The question is, she is 13 and according to the PADI syllabus, the AOWD requires 5 dive disciplines, 3 are optional but 2 of them are mandatory, underwater navigation and deep water.

However, as I understand it she is not eligible to do the deep dive until at least 15 years old.

I read in one website that she might be able to do the deep dive but limited to 21 meters, whereas I can go to 30 meters.

Can anyone clarify please??

Your information is correct. A "deep" dive is anything beyond 60 feet.

From the PADI Instructor Manual:

Age — 12 to 14 Year OldsDepthMaximum 18 metres/60 feet for Junior Open Water

Divers. Maximum 21 metres/70 feet for continuing education.

As the AOW program is "continuing education" the max depth would be 21 metres.

Very quick reply!!

Thanks ever so much.
