hey,
I am new to to this forum so apologies if I am misplacing my question. basically the dive club I qualified with went out of business shortly after I signed up and paid for my AOW course (2 years ago). I received the book but never got to do any of the training dives.Well have several boat dives done but not formally as AOW. Just wondering do dive clubs register payments and if so could I do the course as a referral or with another company. paid up in Ireland so it was a lot of money to have lost :depressed: going to Lanzarote soon and was thinking of doing the AOW there. will I have to pay the entire fee again?

No you will have to pay again, as you only paid the now out of business shop, but make sure you take the book with you as this will save you a BIT of money by not having to buy another!

It always surprises me to see people pay for a course and then not do it. I know when I pay for things, I get what I paid for and usually start ASAP rather than waiting two years...My recommendation would be to sign up for the class when you are ready to actually take it. As grassgreen said, you'll be paying for AOW again...

I may be wrong but I think the OP intended to do the course right after paying, but the dive shop closed up before he was able to do so.

Sorry to hear about your situation, but that money goes to the shop/instructor, not to PADI. So unless the same instructor is doing your class somewhere else, you'll be paying for that class again.

Sadly I think you will have to pay and "start again". As has been said above the fee was paid to the dive club and does not go to PADI, only a small portion gets passed on for materials and certification. the rest is the instructors fee. At least by taking the course on a holiday/resort basis you will be doing the training and dives within a short time of paying so the chances of someone else going bust on you should be small. Try to research where you are doing the course, and as you have the manual already you an get a head start by reading the theory and so on before you go.

Good luck - Phil

Figured as much : -( Thank you all for the reples. yes I intended to start the course pretty much straight away. As I worked shift at the time I had arranged to defer for a month so I would be available. It wasnt a bankrupty situation though the shop was doing badly. just pretty sh*tty of him to take the money and run. I and my friends had given him thousands in business and would have remained loyal customers. oh well, such is life! thanks again. happy diving.

I really hate it when someone responds to a post (especially condesendingly) not having read the post. What about "went out of business shortly after I signed up and paid for my AOW course" is so hard to understand. Try reading the whole post before you jump.

Agree with everyone that you can save some money since you still have the book, but you will have to pay again for the rest of it...
