Just wondering as everywhere I read everyone seems to have done night diver. I'm wondering because I just finished AOW and did: deep, multilevel, buoyancy, nav, wreck.

No you do not have to do a night dive for the PADI-AOW.
Only Deep and Nav are required.
Night dives are fun and I think you should do them.
Be safe and have fun.

Not required, although it used to be. Navigation and deep are required, and the rest are "negotiable".

Thanks, that's what was confusing me. I thought I had read it was required. Is night diver really worth taking a class for though? I mean it's dark, make sure you have a few flash lights right?

Depends on your comfort level

Have the right gear, know how everything works and plan the dive including contingincies. It is different than a daytime dive. You'll have a blast!

Depending on your comfort level the need can vary in some respects.

There are techniques and considerations that could easily make a 15-30 pre-dive briefing followed by demonstrated use on a dive. Night diving does nothing to improve so I'd say that there's more to it than clipping on a few lights.

If you are comfortable enough, I would definitely suggest taking the Night Diver Specialty. It's a great experience and helps you to deal with limited visibility conditions. It expands your diving experiences also. Depending on where you dive, a site you have visited numerous times in the past during daylight becomes a whole new site at night. The "dayshift" goes to sleep, and the "night shift" is active. The difference between the two are, well like Day and Night (pun intended). It is well worth taking the course as it will open you to a new form of diving, and also help you develop skills that can help you at any dive site.

Night dives can be really fun if planned out and done properly. I love doing a night dive in an area that I have dove numerous times in daylight. It is a totally different aspect to a familiar location. Everything seems different and the aquatic life is very different at night.
