Just got bck from dry suit diving off the coast of Vancouver Island (Quadra). I saw several dogfish sharks. They tended to travel in pairs. VERY curious! They swim right up to you and look into your mask. They seem to have some sort of intelligence that is greater than the average fish.

At one point one was headed strait for me and I put up my flashlight 2 inches in front of its nose. Then it swam off.

It was incredible to see these "sharks" that have the exact look of their larger, more dangerous cousins from the tropics. Yet they are only 3-4 feet, miniature...

Just finished a scallop dive 2 miles off the coast of Salisbury on Saturday. We were in 90+ fsw and the spiny dogfish were all over us. Yes they are very curious creatures. For the most part harmless, but they are called spiny dogfish for a reason. If you look closely at the dorsal fin you will see it has a spine or stinger right behind it. It looks similar to that of a stingray. If you get stuck with that spine, your not going to be happy about it. And if you’re prone to allergic reactions then you’re really not going to be happy.

I swear he caught 30 dogs for every non-dog he caught out there.

There are spots on Georges Bank that are so full of dogfish that it's hard to catch a cod. Anytime that happens to us, we move the boat .
