Hello all. I'm soon going to be ditching my Knighthawk for a hog setup. I've decided to go with Oxycheq. Everyone I know with OC loves it, and my LDS started carying OC a few months back. I'm going to go with a SS and AL backplate with a single piece harness on each. The dives weight requirement will determine which to use. I will be diving various size tanks, as large as LP120's. Someone recently told me that the Mach V was disigned for 7.25" tanks. Is this true? Can it make any difference? The radius of a LP tank is not that much different than HP. If anyone has had any issues with this please let me know, and maybee I'll consider another wing. As of now I like what I see in the Mach V. Thanks for any input.

Chad

Hey sclakediver,
I've got a Mach V, and I can't really imagine tank diameter would make too big of a difference... so long as the STA fits, and you've got your tank straps set up properly. I dive with HP80s and HP100s. If I leave the boot on the HP80, my STA bangs the boot about a half inch before I have the tank positioned the way I like it. I doubt you'll have that problem with a LP120... that things a monster!

When I talked to Patrick @ Oxycheq before purchasing mine (love it!), he indicated that it was designed for AL80's. That said, I have never used an AL80. My tanks are HP80's and HP100's, and I even dove it once w/ a HP130. It fit in the cam bands, looked a little funny w/ such a big tank, but it worked. As you mentioned, it's really the tank radius that affects how much it squeezes the wing. If in doubt call Patrick and talk to him about it. He was very helpful when I called.

Hey Chad,

My buddy, Justin, used his 30# Mach V on that last Morehead City we all went on. He was diving X8-130s, and said the wing performed just as well as it did with AL80s. On that same trip, Reese was using a Mach V Extreme on a LP120, and really liked it. I haven't personally used my Mach V on 8" diameter tanks, but it should be just fine.

FYI, both LP and HP steel tanks come in 7.25" (same as an AL80) and 8" diameters. And you are right, the extra 3/4" doesn't change much as far as wing performance goes.

Wow, talk about a fast response.
I'm glad to hear even more positive comments about the Oxycheq line.

Jeff, I just so happened to talk to Reese shortly after posting this thread. He said he loves his 40# Extreme. I told him I was looking at the 30# Mach V and he recommended the 40# wing. Now I'm scratching my head. I'll have to make a decision on one or the other, although I'll probably end up with both eventually.

Thanks again for the responses.

The 30 should be more than enough lift for most applications, but the 40 is not appreciably bigger. In fact, I often have to look at the tag to tell the difference in the two.

You can't really go wrong with any of the Mach V designs.

Why not just determine how much lift you actually need and go on from there? I've used the Mach V with 8" cylinders and it worked just fine.

You're right Rainer, determine how much lift I need. I have already done this, and I know 30# is plenty. Someone told me that a 8" dia. tank would interfere with the Mach V 30# wing. I couldn't see ho this could make a significant difference, and I found it rather silly. I was looking for people that have used the Mach V 30# wing with 8" tanks. I'm glad you replied that you have used this setup and didn't have any problems. This is exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks for the help. I went by the LDS today. They were out of the Mach V's, all they had in stock of the OC line were Extreme wings. The owner wasn't there so I shot him an email requesting him to order one for me. I would love to get some good dives on this setup before I go to South Florida in Dec.
