Not usually in the habit of commenting about online dive shops, but scubatoys.com deserves a little recognition.

I spoke with Larry on monday night where he guided me to choose the standard oxycheq 30 lb wing over the signature because of its more streamlined profile and the fact that he has not had any customers who have actually punctured the bladder anyway. So I ordered the standard wing. It was less than the advertised price on scubatoys by about 20 bucks. Not sure if this was a special or anything, but works for me. He even shaved a little money off because I live in Houston and would have had to pay sales tax.

So I ordered the wing around 6:30 on monday evening and it was at my house by 6:00on wednesday. If anyone here has doubt about ordering from scubatoys - not that I have heard of any - let me assure you that my experience with them was excellent.

On the other hand, I found out that women don't think it is very sexy when you model a bp/w setup for them. Maybe if I had not been wearing a dress shirt at the time....

Mildly OT but I HAVE punctured the bladder on my non-signature series Oxycheq wing (after 4 years). A little aquaseal took care of it but I put a decent-sized pinhole in one place and noticed a really small leak in another that I will get around to sealing when I can find it when it's dry (only bubbles when wet).

So from specific personal experience I'll probably buy the signature next time. I don't dive wrecks and didn't think I was particularly hard on my gear.

I have never punctured an Oxycheq standard bladder (I own both the 30# and 40# versions) ... but I HAVE blown out a seam on one. Well, actually, it was a student who blew it out during a Rescue class by continuing to honk on the inflator for about 20 seconds after the OPV started popping.

But I sent it back to Oxycheq and they repaired it for me. Has worked flawlessly ever since ... :D

Try modeling it with a black wetsuit :D
Black is sexy.

But don't wear the booties. Go with nekkid feet.

Ooooh, I don't know . . . BP/W, Hog harness, black drysuit, fit male diver . . . catches MY eye all right!

For those experienced BP/W folks out there ... how does the Oxycheq 30 lb wing compare with the DSS 30 lb wing? Any thoughts?

I've had good experience with scubatoys and various other on-line dive shops that I won't name. I've also had good experiences with my LDS. Unfortunately, and I guess it is just the economic times and the addition of technology, he had to close his phyiscal shop for almost 18 months because of lack of business and the high rent he was paying for his location (which didn't do him justice). Even though his physical shop was closed for a while he still offered the annual equipment check and repair, he just picked it up and delivered it to you. He still offered classes, pool sessions and certifications. So basically, for my life source (BDC, Reg) I bought from him. He taught me how to maintain it in an equipment class. So I don't think I'll be buying the big stuff for scuba for a while. My accessories and toys I've bought on-line. I was able to get another mask and pop my presription lenses from my old mask into my brand new mask (because he taught me). I bought the mask from ebay. I was able to get a Citizen Hyperaqualand watch off ebay after winning the bid it was a great deal. So since I saved money on this watch I sent it into the Citizen repair shop to have it cleaned, new battery, etc. It still didn't cost me what a Citizen would cost me. It works perfectly as my backup. My wetsuits, I always buy on-line.

So, I love my LDS and I like the on-line scuba shops that I've chosen over the years. You just have to pick and choose wisely.

We have one of each. Both are well made and work as intended. I really haven't noticed much of a difference in terms of donut versus horseshoe shape performance issues. The DSS has the built in STA. That may or may not make a difference depending if you want the extra weight a normal STA could provide.
