Asking out of complete ignorance here but, with the ABC islands all having Dutch ties in one way or another, why hasn't KLM started an inter-island service? I read in the above-linked articles they had a code share agreement with Insel (which they have since suspended), but I wonder if those routes are just not profitable?

I'm no airline industry expert but KLM has long been clear that their business model is to serve international markets by operating out of their main hub at Schiphol in Amsterdam. The smallest aircraft in their fleet are 80 passenger Fokker 70 jets. Operating regional turboprops out of a remote Caribbean base would be a major change for them.

big US based airlines generally don't even run regional in the US. KLM isn't any different.

United Express, Delta Connection, and American Eagle are all regional branches of their larger parent companies. All are operating in the USA.

yup. And American Eagle used to serve a bunch of smaller places in the Caribbean and is mostly long gone from that market. Seems they couldn't make it work either. Caribbean local & regional airlines in general seem to struggle, probably for a wide variety of reasons.

So everyone is complaining about Curaçao - Bonaire flights What about Miami to Curaçao (yes, on Insel airlines) any delays there too, or no ? ? ? ?
I think you're going to get the same type of answer no matter what you ask about Insel. Maybe you'd get lucky, maybe not so much. They certainly don't improve your odds of a problem free trip. I think you've been adequately warned at this point...:crafty:

Everyone is booked on Insel far. The only reason why we're flying on Insel is because we're flying out of Miami (carpooling) instead of MCO.

Yes I saw the Atlanta - Bonaire flight , how nice ! How lucky they are do be able to fly nonstop to Bonaire.

Insel has delays thruout their system.

Most of our people who flew Insel last August had some delays ranging from 3 hours to overnight in and out of Miami. As it happened, Delta also had to stop in Orlando and fly in mechanics to fix the plane on the way to Bonaire, so that one was about 8 hours late. Every carrier has problems, but Insel's are constant now. We are telling those from Florida who travel with us to Bonaire each year, do not use Insel. AA Miami-Curacao and Divi Divi Air on to Bonaire works well. For us, we fly up to Atlanta and then Delta to Bonaire.
