This is correct. The riboflavin (B-2) which causes the bright yellow urine is actually a good marker for absorption (and subsequent excretion). This is why the best vitamins are the cheapest (all else being equal). Otherwise, expensive urine.GoBlue!:I disagree. If there is a color to the urine as a byproduct of a vitamin, thats actually a clear indication that the compound was absorbed into the bloodstream & eventually filtered by the kidney.LavaSurfer:Effective vitamins should absorb and not color your urine to any degree. There is always some slight color change but any food could cause that to happen.
liberato:GoBlue!, you have a true knack for explaining things. I think I understand much better now about electrolyte balance. Thanks!
Can you comment on something? When I was in high school, athletes were urged to take salt (sodium chloride) tablets. That then fell into disfavor and a decade later potasium was what needed to be replenished. Now it seems that sodiun is back in favor. How does the sodium/potasium balance play into this whole thing?
UltimateAg:I just read an article on overhydration like 4 months ago. It stated that 3 people have died of overhydration in the past 10 years, all of them were running a marathon at the time. So I don't think it's too much of concern.
PaulChristenson:Actually there was a case of death due to overhydration during a Fraternity pledge hazing in Upstate NY college very recently...
Paul in VT
In the Chico frat hazing, it was excessive water intake which caused death. 30 gals of water.pilot fish:I believe that was excessive alochol ingestion in a very short time, not a hydration isssue.
