I just sent off a letter to the CEO and the COO of Sony Electronics to express my displeasure (as a former loyal Sony user) at the failure of two of its battery products recently. The first was the Sony battery in my Dell E1505 laptop.

The one I'm posting about here is the Sony NP-FH70 "6.5 hour battery" I bought along with my HC-7 camcorder last April. Although the packaging states this battery is for the HC-7 and, in more than one place states that it gets 6.5 hours battery life (not up to 6.5 hours), the battery never gave me more than about 153 min on a full charge (that's 2.5 hours).

About three months ago it started getting even less than that, and was down to less than an hour and finally it died after less than 30 min of diving (less than 10 min of that spent filming). That was the last straw. I was loaned another NP-FH70 battery by ScubaBob* and it has been getting about the same 150-160 min per charge.

I've used five previous Sony camcorders with Sony batteries and almost all of them got close to their rating life on a full charge,

I was wondering if others are experiencing similar problems with their Sony NP-FH70 batteries. Perhaps Sony has a problem with this model just as it had a major problem with the batteries for the Dell and other laptops.
