Hi Guys!

We are in VA Beach and I've had my fill of Rawlings. Is there anything else within a 3h drive from here which is worthwhile? Looking for a quarry/lake setting for the first dive of the year.

I've seen reference to Millbrook, but have been unable to find where it is!

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

The primary virtue of Millbrook (to us) is that its only 60 minutes drive instead of 3.33 hours drive from where we live. With a roundtrip to/from Rawlings running close to 7 hours of driving, I won't do day trips to Rawlings anymore. Its an overnight thing.

Other than that, Rawlings is a nicer place to practice, IMHO.

FWIW.

I hear you - Millbrook for me looks like a 3.5 h drive - although Rawlings is still a good 2 hours. Guess it'll have to be Rawlings! I've heard of other places around this area, but I don't think they are dedicated for scuba.

There is Fantasy Lake in NC, somewhere near Raleigh. I doubt that would be quicker for you, but it is the only other Quarry I know of for SCUBA.

That's a ways further out than Rawlings for us. Thanks though!

if you can get a couple of dollars together. go to florida for a couple of days. no its not the best diving but it is 1000 times better than rawlings. much better viz, alot warmer, and a ton more to see. I know it does not follow the answer you wanted but it is an option

LOL we're going to Cozumel in 2 weeks...no money left for a training trip to Florida!

Have fun in Coz. When you get back, forget about LRawlings. You should consider taking advantage of the great diving right in your backyard. I usually dive on Weds, when the prices are half off, and am always looking for dive buddies - Give me a shout.

Chappy

I'll do that - but I am a weekend only diver.
