Hold up a bit, Bill, on coming to San Diego. The vis in shallow water (and the leopards are definitely in shallow water!) is a couple feet at most.

You can actually see the leopards better standing in waist-deep water and looking through the surface than you can by putting your mask in the water. That's how bad the vis is.

John- I guess it's "good" to know the vis there is as bad as the vis here. I hear conditions up in Monterey are absolutely fantabulous and San Clemente had 100 ft vis.

Me thinks Dr Bill is trying to get us to dive somewhere else....or is he serious? I can tell you that Aug 31, Anacapa could have been Catalina for all we could see underwater.

Otter- One of the reasons I enjoy diving Casino Point is that I often meet other divers and can learn from their experiences as well. I would never redirect divers from our waters... unless the prevailing conditions might offer a less-than-satisfying experience here.

I for one am quite tired of the terrible conditions here (and in much of SoCal). Even though I'm sure this is a temporary thing, I'm actually considering relocating somewhere else (at least temporarily) for some visibility! Any of you ladies wish to host Dr. Bill in your territory?

John H. Moore, That was a nice article and good pictures! We saw leopard sharks last lobster season, during a night dive. I know they aren't considered a "dangerous" shark, but they still have a presence about them.
Dr. Bill,
Is your newspaper column available on web also? I enjoy what you share on this board.
Thanks,
JAW

JustAddWater- Not sure I should respond to a question from a rapid Packer's fan (my great uncle was George Halas and you can imagine the "attitude" towards them I grew up with).

Seriously, I'm trying to market the columns to newspapers so publishing them all on the web might reduce my chances there. However, I don't mind publishing the ones that are relevant to topics discussed in DB threads. The current versions are really oriented to a Catalina audience with local references (although those who dive here would relate to most of them).
