If its pre-loaded you have to bring a second safety spool. I think in class they want you to be able to "load" a bag UW. Which isn't that hard, but is a worthy skill at the DIRF level to have/develop.

There's no need to try and do everything with the left hand. Yes the right hand donates, it also drives scooters and places tie-offs and lots of other stuff. Its not kept empty constantly prepared to donate gas.

Here goes a good clip. Pretty sure it's Clare Gledhill, a GUE instructor, her account anyway.

That's pretty much how I do it with one difference. After threading the spool to the SMB I will clip the double ender back to the spool and then go through the procedures to unroll the SMB. I will take the double ender off the spool once I'm ready to add air to the SMB.

That way if you drop the spool it doesn't unravel as it starts to fall.

I agree. Once you remove the double ender from the spool, you should consider the SMB to be cocked. It's crucial that you competently shoot the bag for the safety of the team. You want to minimize the time between the removal of the double ender and your release of the SMB. The more time in between, the greater chance you will have to deal with a failure or something else. Your dexterity will be greatly hampered by holding the bag in that condition and there is a greater risk that you will deploy the spool by dropping it, create an entanglement hazard, and/or lose it in addressing the issue.
