Yeah, it sounds looney tunes but as I recall, the study that said the helium penalty was incorrect came from a couple of people at NEDU that work on decompression theory (Doolette pops to mind). Unfortunately, rubicon has been down for awhile and I don't know where else that study was published.

It is a huge leap from saying "Don't bother taking helium into account for decompression models" to "don't bother knowing how much helium is in your mix". So you have 18% O2... Is that 18/0? 18/50? 18/82? Or somewhere in between? That makes a big difference.

Still, no where does it say that measuring for He content is not important.
