I say open it up... That way if people, say from either area might actually check things out more - especially if maybe they are planning a trip to a certain location - in either part of the state.
I think opening it up like the Florida one would be a great idea.
I'm from Norcal, but I am also a frequent visitor to the SoCal forum as well.
And @MaxBottomtime you and @Merry have some awesome macro photos... It'd be awesome to see some of those in a Joint area...

I don't see the harm of having a general California forum. As much as I frequent the Nor Cal forum I never post, nor do I consider it Nor Cal. Anything south of Sacramento is So Cal to me!
