Got some just last week. Only problem with on-line may be shipping costs but for reference, they cost me $3 each for the one pounders. If you can make your own it would be your best bet.

You can get them on line or at one of their stores here in the south.
I agree they are handy to have.
I made a bunch of 1 lbs weights just for that reason.
I carry 2 or 3 extra lbs with me so I can hand em off to the guys that are under weight.

Hi Fred: Could you tell me how you made your 1 lb weights? I'd like to try making some heavier ones for my Zeagle Zena, any tips? thanks!

I made all my own weights out of shot and some nylon. First you cut out the size you want fold and sew 2 sides and 1/2 of the 3rd. You can either pour out the weight you need on the scale and then put it in the bag or you can place the bag on the scale and using a funnel pour in the correct amount.

I made 5,4,3,2, and 1#ers. Helps out when finding the right trim. Going to make some more soon so I can trim out the backplate correctly.

We also carry the Sea Pearls 1 lb Soft Weights and if you are making your own... just be careful of the shot you buy. A lot of shot gun lead has a high iron content... look at a shot gun shell that sat in the water for a long time, and you might see a lot of rust. I know someone who made their own from shot, and left them in the BC wet, and got huge rust stains on the BC. If you are making your own - just make sure it's pure lead... maybe test it by wrapping them up in a salt water soaked towel for a few days and see if you get any rust stains on the towel... If not - you're probably good to go.

Thanks for the info Larry, I think I'll forget making some....I'm planning a flytrip to Fla then a liveaboard for a week with my Zena so trying to get outfitted. I don't have any weights with my system yet so as a newbie, I wondered if I should just use the boat weights instead of lugging some around in my carry-on through 2 connections???? If so, how do I set up with them, do they need to go in something before I put them in my BC? Thanks for the help.

As an alternative, just use 1lb (16oz) bank style fishing weights. I have not seen any weight systems that use soft weights that will not accomidate them. You can find them in any good costal tackle shop.

Rich, if you need a sewing machine, come by the house. Kathy can help.

Oh sure... No problem. Just take their weights and drop them into the pockets. Soft weights are a bit more comfortable, but it makes no difference - and they won't hurt the BC.
