Hi, guys, thanks for all the help on tips for Cebu, but now I have another quick question...

Im going to Manila tonight and leaving in the morning, so...

Where's good for going out in Manila?? - I'm not really looking for the P. Burgos style girlie bars, wouldn't mind to go to a few cooler bars. Im staying in Makati Garden Hotel, and Ive been once before down Burgos - a bit full on, are there any places that around there that are a bit more chilled?

A guy im going with wants to go to the Hobbit House in Malate - does anyone know of this? What is that area like (Malate)

Thanks - F

P.S. - I leave in 45 minutes so I need help quick!!

wow... ok let's see

hobbit house is ok, the area is not racey anymore or anything... the hobbit area is more boheme and such

near there is the main malate bar scene (nakpil)... i haven't been there in many years and evolves everynow and then... a decade ago it was very boheme... then the yuppies came and pretended to be "cool" and the place eventually sucked and yuppied up... then the yuppies left... and the gay bars and clubs took over...

in makati you'd probably want to hit the greenbelt 2-greenbelt 3 area... lots of classy yuppie bars and restos there that should fit most any mood...

or swing over to the mall of asia (macapagal ave.) where there are a goodly number of bars there too and the monsoon wind would make things interesting

thanks so much for the help dude, i've been to manila only once before, and that was on a rugby tour which was basically drinking in makati both nights we were there - was fun, but a bit too crazy..

i think we will head to the hobbitt house to see what its like, gotta see it, then check out makati greenbelt & around makati.. we only have one night so i just wanted to get a local opinion on things, and i know the PPDers are the guys to ask - Ive been lurking on the message boards awhile so have an idea that you guys like to have fun!

i dont think we will go to any really trendy/swanky places, we're all on a budget, but want to have fun so will see how the night goes..

thanks bro,
Frank

Party? You have to go at THE FORT, Embassy or Prince of Jaipur, but sure is crap to go now if it rains, going to be pretty hard to get a cab there.

Another option is the Greenbelt area, as per Shugar, try going to Citrus or Nuvo Bar tonight.

I wouldn't recommend Malate at a weather like this though, plus, it's sure is not good to get too drunk or just plain tipsy in malate right now. :D :D

but you don't know where we dropped you off first before heading to lolo pao's :D

@F unit: in makati, go to greenbelt area :) but seeing how late this post is, you're probably in malate by now :D only place i've been in malate is baywalk and cafe havana (if it's still there, anyway). mojito, baby. yum! but stay away from that stuff if you have an early flight next morning

Cafe Havana in Malate was always fun. But, I don't know if it is still there or how they new Cafe Havana in Makati affected it. Makati has more "chain-style' sterile restaurants and bars -- most without the GROs.

As a NYer, I liked Malate. It still has an "organic" street feel to it. While Makati is like some twisted San Diego shopping mall on acid.
