A team of scuba divers submerged near the Outrigger Konotta Resort in Gaafu Dhaal atoll on Friday has been ensnared in tragedy as one of them passes away and another remains hospitalized.

The Maldives Police Service has confirmed that the deceased is a 37-year-old man, Ameeth Saeed. 24-year-old Ahmed Shakir who dived alongside Ameeth has been hospitalized and in 'critical' condition.

31-year-old Mubarik Abdulla, who dived alongside remains safe, the police say. The three men were diving to catch bait fish in the area and dived 44-meters and remained under for over 35 minutes.

The Maldives National Defence Force says that they recieved reports of the incident, through the Thinadhoo Police Station at about 05:15am on Friday.

The military said it dispatched officers from their Southern Command base, who reached the 'Hushiyaaru' vessel that the divers used at about 06:05am.

Does not say how long they were at depth.
It says they were submerged 35 minutes. Running Buhlman 50/80 on air and pretty standard descent/ascent rates, they could have turned at a runtime of 16 minutes, cleared all deco obligations (10ft last stop) and been out of the water at 35 minutes.

Something tells me it didnt go down like that. If they turned at 25 minutes, they would have blown off 30 minutes of deco.

I agree with your something but the facts we have tell us nought.

For me, it looks like locals that have no idea about DCI... Go diving for supporting their family. And then it goes wrong. Went in and got the bends... Met a cucumber diver that did this. Met him in the chamber. He was half paralysed

"Techically" the Maldives deems dives over 100' as illegal as their deco chambers are few to non-existent. These were well beyond that but it does not look like it mattered. Something bad happened down there and we will likely never know what.
