I will be in the High Springs area of Florida and will have some free time on October 25 or 26. With all the talk here and on other scuba forums about bailout cylinders, stage bottles, buddy-bottles and the like, I've decided to offer a one-day workshop to divers to discuss the options available to provide "a redundant gas source." Will show various bits of kit, discuss the pros and cons of each, and show participants the "optimal" way to rig their chosen solution.

Workshop is open to ALL levels of diver from AOW to CCR.

This is NOT an agency accredited course (not had time to get any of them to sign off on it as a distinct specialty) so there will be no c-card at the end of it. Also, the cost is pay as you can.

Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks.

What a great idea, I would totally go if it was in my neck of the woods! Thank you, very nice of you!

I hope a lot of instructors attend to help disseminate the concept faster! ;)

Will you discuss back-mount & slug bottles, independent doubles (back and side), and doubles with an isolation?

Yep... all that and more... well, at least the concept of bailout with a CCR and how best to carry it.

The focus will depend on the current skill level and kit configuration (and style of diving) of the people attending, but I would like to try to have them leave with a through grounding in the basic concepts for all styles of diving. If they walk away understanding why bailout is carried, when it's appropriate, when it's required, how to use it, how to carry it efficiently and safely, and what flavor of gas and how much of it does the best job, I'll be happy.

My guess is the most important "skill" is how to rig a stage and how to modify whatever kit they have to keep it out of the way, but accessible.

MEGADIVE at Ginnie is that weekend. Share this in the Megadive thread. I'm sure there will be some interest there. And do join us for dinner, galaxy dive, and bonfire shenanigans.
This sounds like an awesome workshop. We might stop by to eavesdrop & post a pic or 2. :)

You mean training can exist without an official logo, cost and a shiny plastic card attached to it? ///Snark. Bit far for me to make, sadly, but I'd like the float an idea. If you've got a friend with a camera or two, perhaps it could be taped? Then posted to youtube, or made available in the cloud?

Again, wish I could make it, since a pony is probably in my future at some time.

Ahhh....but only if this happened on the west coast. You know kelp, cold water and GWSs.

Akimbo,

I totally misread that post the first time, I thought you said DECIMATE the concept. (that would probably happen too).
