TSA won't take the knife if it's in your checked in luggage. I regularly travel with shears and/or a dive knife, no problem.
Good Point. I try to get everything on the plane with me when possible. In Asia they can charge a fortune for checked luggage was in Singapore last week and they wanted $45 Sing to check one little item that they would not let on the plane. That hurts if you are on a tight budget.

Alright, so we are off.

Thanks for all the advice! I have a backpack and a duffel bag with rollers. So, I brought:

Mask
Fins
Snorkel (for snorkelling)
Booties
Regs
Computer
Mirror/whistle
AND
the BC

We have an Oly TG-2 as well but it's only good down to 50ft without the housing. Maybe on the third dive I'll take-er-down.

The bc is a stiletto so it packs OK. took up a large potion of the duffel bag but I pack light so there was space which I'm quite happy about.

So I'm renting a wetsuit!! Not a big deal for one day, I'm not that squeamish.

What I've been thinking about the last couple days is about going ahead and moving into a simple wing and webbing. The plate will allow me to carry 0lbs in warm water and the pack down size is really attractive for the longer trips. Plus I'd like to get into some doubles and light tech in a year or two so I might as well get on with it gear-wise... I'm already diving a long-hose.. I LOVE the Zeagle, so I'll probably keep it too. My GF is considering learning to dive so perhaps it would be a nice little hand-me-down gift... it fit her nicely when she tried it on.

Anyway, thanks again for all your opinions and advice!

I got rid of my Nikon D90 and went with the Canon G12 because the camera and the underwater housing weigh less than the D90 alone, forget about it if you are talking lens and underwater housing.. I loved the pictures it took but the difference for me is minimal, but I am not a great underwater photographer wish I was . That would be a tough decision!
