My wife in the picture above is a native of Flanders. People from her region, where farmers still now and then unearth WWI artifacts, feel more of a connection to WWI than WWII. She introduced me to the custom of wearing a poppy on what the US calls Veterans Day and what the others call Remembrance Day.
