I'm looking at acquiring a set of used OMS 98s for doubles. I had my eye on some Wothington or PST Hp100s but an opportunity presents itself. Any opinions on these?

Depends if Hrimthurs & Svadilfari will supply you with HP fills, since the OMS98s are LP

Also whether the supply of 8" tank bands is as plentiful as 7.25" in Asgard

I suggest you ask Sif's permission before making any purchase, to avoid problems

They are fine. I have some.

Let's assume that I will be purchasing the tanks on the planet earth

Some do not like the finish on them - wears a bit more than the std Faber finish. I have three and they are fine.

I had a twinset of 98's that I graduated from 85's. I then graduated from the 98's to 108's. There was virtually no weight difference from the 98's & the 108's, but more gas in the 108's.

The finish isn't great. In fact, its not even good. Also, the faber tanks are significantly more positive than their pst/ worthington equivalents.

If you can get the hp100s, grab those.

While the Faber's are more buoyant than others I would not say the ~2 lbs per cylinder is that significant. (Also one needs to make sure the measurement is the same Faber's is sans valve). Nor would I see it as a negative. Just another factor that a diver must consider. In my case I went with the Fabers because of their buoyancy characteristics. I do not need all that much lead so it meant that I could use my steel back plate for both sides and doubles. Whereas with Worthingtons I probably would have had to use an Aluminum plate instead.
