hi

just wondering if this lens would have any merits for underwater usage.

will be released sometime next month. The lens is compacted it seems that it would require some type of extension to clear the housing. i like to shoot wrecks underwater, but dont want to pop for the 9-18 lens, and i'd be fine with 9 only shooting.

any thoughts?

I have not seen this lens but I think it is intended to be a "fun" product rather than a "real" lens. I doubt you could find a way to make this thing work in a dome port but even if you could, I doubt it would be worth the cost and hassle. If you want a fisheye but don't want to pay the price of the Panasonic, perhaps look into the Samyang (aka Rokinon and Bower) 7.5 fisheye that I think sells for around $300.

Not that the "bodycap" might not be fun...but I can't get my head around the idea of buying a camera housing and then spending a few hundred dollars or more for a dome port in order to shoot pictures with a $99 accessory. I suppose it might be entertaining to play with if you already have a dome or intend to get a better lens later and can afford a dome port now and just want to experiment with something.

well, no dome port in my inventory. im a tight arse, so just the standard Oly housing/flat port.

just a thought on my part. im not serious enough at this point to invest a thousand bux into a WA/Dome port combo.
