I have a pair of luxfer AL80's I picked up recently. the stamped date on them is born in 94. The last hydro is about 7 years ago. The tanks are nearly full. Would the risk of cracking be too high to be worth getting them hydro'd? Thanks for the advice.

They are not old enough to be worried about. Get the hydro and use them.

I had 2 that I bought new--one born in '85, the other in '86--that passed hydro last summer(of 2013)........So my Q is, 'why not'??...

I read that AL tanks don't take to being stored full well. Was worried about them failing if they have been stored full for a few years.

I just finished a PSI cert class. The instructor explained there were 11 known cases of the older tanks (6561) failing. IMO, the tanks should be good to go. The issue will be finding a company who will hydro the tanks. Many companies do not want to bother. The Hydro company is also supposed to insect the threads for cracking and stamp "VE" (Visual Eddy) on the tank after the hydro date.

I think these should be ok on the alloy front since they are from 94, was more worried about the storing while full
