This old bottle of helium has been sitting in the corner of my shop for years, only thing I know about it is it was left behind 30 years ago when a neighbor retired.

I'm not planning on actually using it but I am curious what the community thinks. Who thinks it's still good? How would one go about checking it's purity? Would you use it?

For me the uncertainty is a deal breaker.

analyze it and dive it. If it is helium, it is still good
The tank won't rust being full of inert gas

What tracy said. Analyze and see what you get. It's not going to oxidize the tank

You are all brave ....alright, we will throw an analyzer on it and see what we get.

I recently purchased 2 S bottles of helium from different sources. Turns out, both were empty, despite one being claimed as "partway" full and the other supposedly full, full.

One of them did have a wasp nest in the cylinder cap, which I discovered while driving on the highway when they decided to exit their cozy cap home and explore the inside of my jeep.

My guess is that the partway full bottle was really nearly empty, and the "full" bottle had a very tiny leak. Both had been sitting for quite some time before I came across them.

I hope yours has more helium and less wasps than mine did.
